Chemical Operations Specialist

Discovery Natural Resources LLC (DNR) is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.

The Chemical Operations Specialist will support and optimize Discovery’s production chemical program. This position combines technical analysis, field integration, and vendor collaboration to ensure reliable, efficient, and cost-effective operations.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Evaluate vendor recommended chemical applications using third-party lab analyses.
  • Make recommendations based on water analysis, residuals, ATP tests, corrosion data, and vendor reports.
  • Analyze usage variances and performance trends to identify issues and drive optimization.
  • Develop and maintain tracking tools (Excel, Power BI) to monitor program performance.
  • Verify vendor invoices, chemical volumes, and cost alignment with field data.
  • Diagnose and resolve chemical-related production issues.
  • Lead field troubleshooting, optimization, and new well setups.
  • Validate injection rates, tank levels, and automation equipment during field visits.
  • Perform spot inspections of chemical systems.
  • Serve as the main contact for chemical-related matters between vendors, operations, and engineering.
  • Lead monthly vendor reviews and ensure action items are completed.
  • Coordinate with Production, Facilities, and Measurement teams to align chemical programs with operational goals.
  • Model Discovery’s core values and support HSE policies.
  • Maintain proper chemical inventory and prevent program interruptions.
  • Collaborate across departments to support production and maintenance projects.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; bachelor’s degree in one of the physical sciences (e.g., Chemistry, Biology) preferred
  • Minimum 3 years of oil and gas production chemical experience.
  • 5+ years of chemical program management experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, data analysis, trend tracking).
  • Ability to interpret and communicate laboratory and field test data.
  • Experience addressing field issues such as paraffin, scale, corrosion, and water quality.
  • Strong communication, organization, and follow-through skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively with field teams and vendors.
  • Experience with chemical automation equipment or monitoring systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of water chemistry and chemical optimization strategies is preferred.
  • Experience validating vendor performance and invoice accuracy preferred.
  • Familiarity with program documentation and procedure development is preferred.

*25% of work should be expected outdoors under variable weather conditions. May require occasional lifting of heavy objects. Physical ability to perform routine maintenance on oil and gas wells as required.
