Controller
Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.
The Controller position will report to the Chief Accounting Officer.
Primary Responsibilities
- Review complex monthly journal entries, including derivatives, ARO, DD&A, debt, business combinations, etc.
- Supervise JIB, AP and revenue functions, including analytical procedures related to key operating metrics and certain monthly responsibilities including the following:
- Complete analytical procedures to ensure accuracy of well coding, accuracy of material transfers, cost allocations
- Maintain effective communication with operations, accounting personnel and personnel from other functional areas.
- Perform financial analysis of actual results against budget/forecast and have an understanding of the business activity and industry accounting guidance to ensure financial statements are reported in accordance to GAAP.
- Process Improvement – Demonstrate an understanding of various accounting processes and an ability to identify root causes for issues and develop and propose opportunities for improvement.
- Process Documentation – Work with various departments annually to update key controls, process narratives, and flow charts.
- Special Project assignments – Lead accounting project initiatives to develop project leadership skills. Lead implementation of new systems and processes.
- Evaluate complex transactions (such as accounting for business combinations) and record to the GL as necessary to ensure the financials are accurate and complete.
- Preparation of monthly financial statements, including the monthly reporting package, which includes detailed analysis of revenue, operating costs, G&A, CAPEX.
- Preparation and issuance of the audited financial statements, including interacting with the external audit team.
- Assist Chief Accounting Officer with key treasury functions, including banking controls, cash forecasting, hedging etc.
- Internal Audit support – Responsible for working with the internal auditors on the execution of ongoing audits. This includes providing them with requested information in a timely manner as well as responding to questions and resolving outstanding action items.
- Review, manage and mentor accounting staff.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting; CPA and Master’s degree strongly preferred.
- Oil & gas experience required.
- 5+ years of management experience preferred.

Compensation and Benefits
- Estimated pay range: $175,000 – $225,000 (depending upon experience of the successful candidate)
