Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Engineering Manager will lead a team of technical professionals as well as production and facilities engineers in optimizing the company’s hydrocarbon producing assets. Position responsibilities include supervision of engineering professionals in surface processing and downhole lift design, value optimization, equipment and service procurement, project management, onsite operations, and safety efforts for the entirety of the production cycle from turn in line through the well life to plug and abandon. Additionally, this position will be responsible for development of budgets and schedules, cost management, key performance reporting, and strategic planning activities to drive the success of the organization in the operations AOR. The Engineering Manager will work closely with Field Operations, Development Team personnel, Third Party stakeholders, Regulatory, HSE, and Land functions.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily activities of the Operations Engineering department. Monitor daily the status of well production and gathering conditions to maximize production performance across the company.
  • Professionally develop personnel in the manager’s area of responsibility.
  • Ensure all work performed adheres to Company standards and is in compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements. Maintain a work environment and culture focused on responsible stewardship of environmental and community resources as well as safety excellence.
  • Work closely with field operations, engineers, geologists, administrative staff, and external parties to coordinate, execute, and advance all production and facilities activities. Serve as a resource to all necessary stakeholders to drive positive asset performance, leveraging strong technical expertise in a broad range of operations activities.
  • Develop LOE and capital budgets for separation facilities, pipelines, tank batteries, ponds/impoundments, locations, roads, and injection facilities.
  • Review and approve invoices for all services. Verify maintenance of consistent, accurate accounting of costs and events in daily reporting.
  • Track capital and LOE spend and report on spend vs budget on a regular basis to include accrual estimates to Accounting for capital and LOE each month.
  • Complete cost and performance analyses through performance lookbacks and AFE vs Actual reviews as necessary.
  • Responsible for maintaining assigned capital budgets. Implement cost and efficiency studies to track expenditures and continually improve program economics.
  • Prepare and review procurement documentation, assist in negotiations, and lead ongoing appraisal of all production related equipment and services.
  • Prepare AFEs, lift designs, workover proposals, facilities recommendations, clean out procedures and any other documents as required.
  • Support IC engineers in lift systems to include rod pump, ESP, gas lift, and plungers.
  • Maintain a work environment and culture focused on DNR’s core values and operational excellence.
  • Operate a vehicle safely in all weather conditions to drive to locations in rural/open range country.
  • Participate in continuing education classes related to operations engineering and management as necessary to lead industry best practice and new technologies as a thought leader.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent field of study. Other technical degrees will be considered in conjunction with substantial relevant experience.
  • Targeting a minimum of 10 years of progressive oil and gas engineering experience, with 3 years in a leadership role with direct management responsibility.
  • Experience in negotiating service contracts, GPAs, and similar commercial agreements.
  • Experience in build out and operation of gathering and compression assets including management of regulatory compliance activities is a plus.

  • Experience in well construction design, directional drilling, rig operations, logging, cementation, stimulation design/ops, logistics, cased-hole wireline, wellbore cleanout, and/or fishing is positive.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word) to manipulate and interpret data and reports.
  • Experience with energy industry software to include PowerBI, Spotfire, ARIES, WellView, SiteView, ProCount Suites, and AFE Navigator. Engineers will be expected to utilize Ignition, Carte, PipeSim, and other software tools.
  • Ability to travel to field locations on short notice and/or for extended periods as necessary.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated pay range: $190,000 – $265,000 (depending upon experience of the successful candidate)

Most of the job is done in an office setting. Field travel required 10–15%; adverse weather conditions may exist. Variable work hours including nights and weekends.
