Construction Lead
Discovery Natural Resources LLC (DNR) is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.
Reporting to the Construction Foreman, the Construction Lead is responsible for providing hands-on field leadership for field facility and pipeline construction activities, ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, on or ahead of schedule. This leadership role directly leads and coordinates construction crews and consultants, collaborates with D&C, Engineering, and Production Operations, and drives cost-effective project execution. The Lead assists in budget development, owns day-to-day project execution, and does so within budget while cultivating a culture that is selfless, accountable, and never settling.
Primary Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead daily construction activities, including separation facilities, pipelines, tank batteries, compression, ponds/impoundments, locations, roads, and injection facilities.
- Supervise construction crews and contractors, ensuring work adheres to company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Align project execution with schedules to maximize efficiency, safety, and quality, recommending and implementing improvements to work techniques.
- Serve as the primary field point of accountability for safety, quality, cost, and schedule performance.
- Provide direction, coaching, and feedback to field personnel to drive high performance and continuous improvement.
- Champion adherence to Discovery’s HSE policies, ensuring all construction activities comply with state and federal oil and gas regulations.
- Conduct regular site inspections to maintain a safe work environment and ensure compliance with industry standards.
- Proactively identify and mitigate safety, environmental, and execution risks.
- Assist in development of capital budgets and Bills of Materials (BOMs) for construction projects, providing accurate cost estimates.
- Track capital expenditures, review and approve or recommend approval of invoices, and assist in the monthly accrual process with Construction Leadership & Accounting.
- Drive cost management through periodic RFP processes and continuous design improvements.
- Support AFE development and execution discipline to ensure spend aligns with approved scope.
- Collaborate with Drilling, Completions, Facilities Engineering, and Production Operations to prioritize high-value projects and align with company goals.
- Assist in development and management of project schedules, ensuring timely completion and progress tracking.
- Provide feedback to engineers and peers to refine project scopes, budgets, and schedules.
- Communicate execution status, risks, and schedule impacts to stakeholders in a timely manner.
- Assist in regular performance lookbacks and AFE vs. Actual reviews to analyze cost and project performance.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement innovative solutions to enhance construction workflows.
- Stay current with industry best practices through continuing education and professional development.
- Foster strong communication with field crews, office teams, and external stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution.
- Maintain organized documentation using Wellview/Siteview, Google Earth, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Promote a collaborative team environment, aligning construction activities with organizational objectives.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5+ years of progressive oil and gas experience, including field exposure
- At least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role overseeing crews or contractors
- Demonstrated experience in construction and/or maintenance activities
Skills and Knowledge

- Strong understanding of process flow, hydraulics, and oil and gas construction practices.
- Proficiency in budgeting, planning, and cost management, with experience in developing BOMs and tracking expenditures.
- Analytical skills to inform cost-based decisions through performance lookbacks and AFE reviews.
- Familiarity with state and federal oil and gas regulatory obligations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate across teams in Denver and Barnhart field offices.
- Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
- Working knowledge and general understanding of Wellview/Siteview, Google Earth, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record, with the ability to safely operate a vehicle in rural and variable weather conditions.
*This role is primarily field-based and requires work outdoors under variable weather conditions. Must be able to safely navigate active construction sites and perform the essential functions of the role, with or without reasonable accommodations.
