Discovery Natural Resources LLC (DNR) is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.

Reporting to the Maintenance & Compliance Foreman, the Compliance Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on field and programmatic support for environmental and mechanical compliance programs across field operations. This includes direct execution and oversight of emissions control systems, regulatory inspections, and maintenance coordination to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations such as 40 CFR Subparts OOOOa/b/c and Subpart W. This role requires a proactive, safety-conscious individual with strong technical and communication skills to work collaboratively with Operations, HSE teams, and third-party contractors to drive consistent, auditable compliance execution.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Conduct LDAR (Leak Detection and Repair), AVO (Audio Visual Olfactory), and Method 22 inspections using OGI (Optical Gas Imaging) cameras and other tools.
  • Evaluate alerts from fixed methane detection systems, aerial surveillance, and tank pressure monitors and initiate appropriate follow-up actions.
  • Perform and document inspections and preventative maintenance on emissions control equipment (VRUs, flares, combustors, tank hatches, PRVs).
  • Coordinate and track repairs to tagged items, ensuring timely resolution and documentation.
  • Support OOOOa/b/c-related maintenance activities and ensure full traceability and recordkeeping of corrective actions.
  • Ensure inspection, maintenance, and repair activities meet regulatory documentation and audit readiness requirements
  • Provide oversight to contractors performing flare maintenance and flame arrestor servicing to ensure compliance with Discovery standards and Regulatory requirements.
  • Manage work orders through CMMS (e.g., Pronto), ensuring timely completion and quality performance.
  • Track and report daily costs related to emissions prevention and maintenance to support cost awareness and budget controls.
  • Coordinate with Operations to prioritize corrective actions based on regulatory risk and emissions impact.
  • Provide annual compliance and maintenance training to Production Foremen and Lease Operators.
  • Communicate repair completions and compliance updates to HSE representatives.
  • Collaborate with Field Operations and HSE teams to improve compliance practices and share insights.
  • Serve as a technical resource for emission compliance questions in the field.
  • Scheduled Compliance Tasks
    • Weekly:
      • Conduct Storage Tank & CVS (Closed Vent System) AVO inspections.
      • Perform ECD (Enclosed Combustion Device) inspections.
    • Monthly:
      • Inspect and drain CVS vent lines.
      • Conduct dump valve inspections.
      • Perform Method 22 inspections on flares.
    • Quarterly:
      • Inspect thief hatch gaskets and PRVs.
      • Conduct OGI inspections.
      • Drain CVS vapor lines.
    • Semiannual:
      • Disassemble and inspect thief hatches and PRVs.
      • Perform dump valve operational testing and exhaust port cleaning.
      • Calibrate tank pressure transducers.
      • Conduct ECD maintenance and cleaning.
      • Replace or clean flame arrestors.
    • Maintain accurate scheduling, execution, and documentation of all recurring compliance activities.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 5 years of oil & gas or relevant field experience with direct involvement in environmental or mechanical compliance activities.
  • Experience with OGI, AVO, and Method 22 inspections.
  • Familiarity with EPA regulations (40 CFR Subparts OOOOa/b/c, Subpart W).
  • ITC Optical Gas Imaging Infrared Thermography Certification or equivalent preferred.
  • Technical certifications in environmental compliance or emissions monitoring preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to climb stairs on production tanks (10–25 feet).
  • Ability to lift 55 lbs to a height of 3 feet.
  • Exposure to oilfield chemicals and all weather conditions.
  • Ability to hear over loud background noise.
  • Regularly work in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of VRU systems, flares, combustors, and emissions control equipment.
  • Basic mechanical skills and ability to perform minor repairs.
  • Proficiency in SCADA, Excel, GIS, and mobile field data capture tools.
  • Strong communication and coordination skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and adapt to changing schedules.
