Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.

The Development and Planning Engineering Analyst supports production forecasting and field development planning to inform strategic decisions. This role collaborates with engineering and cross-functional teams to deliver technical insights, scenario evaluations, and data-driven recommendations. It combines analytical, technical, and communication skills to support planning processes and operational efficiency.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support forecasting tools to enable accurate planning of production, capital, and operational expenses
  • Collaborate on annual budgets, long-term plans, and monthly forecasts, identifying opportunities to improve efficiency and accuracy
  • Analyze actual vs. forecasted performance, providing insights, variance analysis, and recommendations to support informed decision-making
  • Partner with engineering and technical teams to support economic evaluations, project lookbacks, and scenario planning
  • Create and maintain dashboards and visual reports (e.g., Spotfire) to share data-driven insights with diverse audiences
  • Contribute to the evaluation of acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic opportunities, including due diligence and data analysis
  • Conduct research on industry trends, competitor activity, and internal performance to identify risks and opportunities
  • Support continuous learning by staying current with industry tools, practices, and professional development opportunities

Education and Experience

  • A bachelor’s degree in a technical, analytical, or quantitative field (e.g., Math, Engineering, Data Analytics, Statistics, Computer Science, Finance), or equivalent practical experience through work, training, or self-directed learning
  • Typically requires 5+ years of relevant experience, or a demonstrated ability to perform the responsibilities through a combination of professional, academic, volunteer, or other applicable experiences
  • Experience supporting or evaluating acquisition, divestiture, or strategic partnership opportunities in the energy sector or related industries
  • Familiarity with the Permian Basin or similar resource is helpful but not required

  • Familiarity with forecasting, scenario planning, and financial modeling tools (e.g., Enersight or equivalents)
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite and experienced in managing, analyzing, and reporting on large datasets
  • Comfortable using industry software and public data sources (e.g., ARIES, WellView, IHS, Enverus) to support decision-making
  • Demonstrated ability to identify process improvements and apply programming or automation tools (e.g., Python, SQL, VBA)

Compensation and Benefits

  • Estimated pay range: $120,000 – $140,000 (depending upon experience of the successful candidate)
