Land Manager
Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.
We are seeking a highly experienced, multidisciplined Land Manager with proven expertise in mineral land, surface land, land administration, owner relations, and business development. This leader will oversee Discovery’s activities in these areas, ensuring operational excellence, strategic growth, and active mentorship of the Land and Land Admin teams.
The Land Manager will direct and oversee all land-related activities to support the Company’s operational, development, and corporate growth goals. This role provides leadership to the Land Department, ensures consistency and compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, manages the departmental budget, and plays a key part in acquisitions, divestitures, and field development activities.

Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop teams across mineral land, surface land, owner relations, and land administration, ensuring strong collaboration, continuous learning, and alignment with company goals.
- Establish best‑in‑class land practices, workflows, data standards, and governance across all land disciplines.
- Manage relationships with brokers, contract landmen, title attorneys, and other third‑party vendors.
- Manage and maintain the company’s leasehold position, including tracking primary terms, expirations, extensions, and obligations.
- Develop and execute leasing, acquisition, divestiture, and title curative strategies aligned with asset development plans.
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend trades, acquisitions, and divestitures of leasehold and mineral interests.
- Oversee title examination, curative efforts, and due diligence for operated and non-operated assets.
- Review, negotiate, and administer oil and gas leases, amendments, assignments, JOAs, farmouts, unit agreements, and other land contracts.
- Coordinate with legal counsel on complex title issues, litigation support, and regulatory filings.
- Oversee surface access, rights-of-way, surface use agreements, and damage negotiations with landowners.
- Support drilling, completion, production, and midstream teams with timely and accurate land information.
- Identify, evaluate, and execute leasing, acquisition, divestiture, and trade opportunities aligned with asset development plans.
- Conduct and lead comprehensive due diligence for acquisitions and divestitures, including title, leasehold, obligations, and surface considerations.
- Attend data rooms, manage due diligence teams, and present land findings and risks to senior leadership.
- Draft, negotiate, and manage Purchase and Sale Agreements, Confidentiality Agreements, and related transaction documents.
- Analyze leasehold quality, acreage valuation, title risk, surface constraints, and commercial opportunities.
- Work closely with operations, subsurface, regulatory, finance, and accounting teams to support development schedules and revenue accuracy.
- Provide land and title input for well proposals, AFE approvals, unitization, pooling, and spacing matters.
- Support reserves, ownership, and revenue verification efforts.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Land Management, Energy Management, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of progressive land experience, with Permian Basin exposure.
- Demonstrated expertise in mineral land, surface land, land administration, owner relations, and business development.
- Strong working knowledge of Texas oil and gas law, land practices, mineral ownership, surface issues, leasing practices, and title standards.
- Proven experience negotiating leases, surface agreements, contracts, and complex land transactions.
- Demonstrated experience managing operated leasehold and supporting drilling and development programs.
- Proficiency with land systems (e.g., Enverus, P2, BOLO, or similar) and Microsoft Office Suite
- Certified Professional Landman (CPL) or Registered Landman (RPL) preferred
- Prior experience in a Land Manager or supervisory role with demonstrated success leading, mentoring, and developing land team and land administration teams.
- Strong experience with acquisitions and divestitures (A&D), including due diligence leadership.

Compensation and Benefits
- Estimated pay range: $215,000 – $255,000 (depending upon experience of the successful candidate)
