Discovery Natural Resources LLC is a domestic, onshore exploration and production company with over 1,000 wells in operation in Texas.
Reporting to the Compliance & Maintenance Foreman, the Maintenance Specialist is responsible for protecting company infrastructure and supporting safe excavation activities by locating, marking, and documenting underground utilities. This role also performs preventative maintenance on compressed air systems to ensure reliable operation and maximize equipment lifespan. The Maintenance Specialist works closely with operations, construction, maintenance, and contractor personnel to support field activities while fostering a culture that is selfless, accountable, and never settling.
Primary Responsibilities
Ground Disturbance & Utility Locating
Locate & Mark
- Receive, review, and process utility locate requests and excavation work orders.
- Locate underground utility lines using electromagnetic locating equipment and other approved technologies.
- Accurately mark underground facilities using company-approved paint, flags, stakes, and other identification methods.
- Verify utility locations to support safe digging and excavation activities.
Asset Mapping & Documentation
- Utilize maps, blueprints, utility records, and locating equipment to trace underground assets.
- Document utility locations and update asset information as required.
- Use company-issued tablets, laptops, and software applications to record and close locate tickets.
- Maintain accurate records of completed locates and field observations.
Safety & Compliance
- Establish safe work zones and implement traffic control measures when required.
- Ensure compliance with company ground disturbance procedures, One Call requirements, and safe excavation regulations.
- Conduct job hazard assessments and identify potential risks associated with excavation activities.
- Communicate underground asset information clearly to internal personnel and contractors.
Compressor Preventative Maintenance
Routine Maintenance
- Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on compressed air systems and associated equipment.
- Conduct fluid level inspections, oil changes, cleaning, and general servicing activities.
- Follow established maintenance schedules and manufacturer recommendations.
Filtration & System Performance
- Inspect, clean, and replace air and oil filtration components.
- Monitor compressor performance and identify opportunities for improved efficiency.
- Assist in maintaining system reliability and operational readiness.
Mechanical Inspection & Repair
- Inspect hoses, belts, couplers, bearings, fittings, and related components for wear and proper operation.
- Verify proper belt tension, alignment, and lubrication of mechanical systems.
- Perform minor repairs and corrective maintenance as needed.
Leak Detection & Documentation
- Identify and repair air leaks to improve system efficiency and reliability.
- Record operating hours, system pressures, maintenance activities, and equipment performance metrics.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate equipment concerns to supervision.
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in utility locating, oilfield operations, construction, maintenance, or a related field preferred.
- Experience operating underground utility locating equipment preferred.
- Mechanical maintenance experience, particularly with compressors or rotating equipment, preferred.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 55 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions for extended periods.
- Ability to walk long distances over uneven terrain.
- Ability to bend, kneel, climb, and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Safely operate hand tools, utility locating equipment, and maintenance tools.
- Ability to respond to emergency or after-hours requests when required.
Skills and Knowledge
- Knowledge of underground utility locating practices and safe excavation procedures.
- Ability to read and interpret maps, utility drawings, and blueprints.
- Basic mechanical troubleshooting and preventative maintenance skills.
- Proficiency with tablets, mobile applications, and electronic work order systems.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Effective communication and teamwork abilities.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Complexity of Duties
- Analyze utility records, maps, and field conditions to accurately locate underground assets.
- Balance utility locating responsibilities with preventative maintenance schedules.
- Support excavation projects while ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory requirements.
- Identify potential infrastructure conflicts and communicate findings proactively.
- Respond to urgent locate requests and changing operational priorities.
- Contribute to asset integrity, operational reliability, and safe field execution.
* Majority of work will be outdoors under variable weather conditions. May require occasional lifting of heavy objects. Physical ability to perform routine maintenance on oil and gas wells as required.
